 Are you interested in Ecotourism and Sustainable travel? Would you like to participate in a nationwide campaign and scientific study to count birds during the heart of winter? Bring your family and join us for our Annual Warm Springs Georgia Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) This is the 11th annual national event. Dates for the next count begin on Friday February 15,2008 and runs through Monday February18, 2008 Presidents Day Weekend. The GBBC is a joint project between the Cornell Lab of Ornothology and the Audubon Society and is held annually. The village of Warm Springs, Georgia is proud to participate in this project and we have initiated a festival inviting everyone to come to Warm Springs and count birds. (see results below) Destinations for the GBBC include: - The National Fish Hatchery is one of the many regional hatcheries in the southeast and is fed by the Cold Springs that flow from Pine Mountain. This location provides a walking trail around the numerous ponds that provide migrating birds with a plentiful source of water and food.
- FD Roosevelt State Park The largest of Georgia's State Parks and recently declared an Important Bird Area, this park featuers over 37 miles of Hiking and Backpacking along the Pine Mountain Trail.
Visiting the village of Warm Springs, Georgia is like taking a step back in time where bird watchers can shop, eat and rest in the town made famous by Franklin D. Roosevelt. As this is a new event, we are not accepting vendors. We want to make sure this is an established feature so that everyone will benefit. Ecotourism is not a new feature in Warm Springs, Georgia and we are proud to promote enviromentally conscience events and sustainable travel such as the Great Backyard Bird Count at Roosevelt's Little White House and FD Roosevelt State Park, that are run but the Georgia Dept of Natural Resources. The National Fish Hatchery is run by the US FIsh and Wildlife Services. | Nationwide 2007 Results Overall, the 2007 Great Backyard Bird Count participants made history, breaking records for number of birds reported, number of species, and number of checklists. As of March 5, participants had submitted 80,744 checklists documenting 11,066,350 birds of 629 species.

| Warm Springs 2007 Results The results have been tabulated and Warm Springs ranked 39th in the state of Georgia, with dozens of people reporting 261counted birds of 30 different species. Our participation in the GBBC helped Georgia to rank 4th in the North American continent of States/Provinces submitting the most checklists with a record breaking 3,961, 5th in the continent of states/provinces reporting the most species with 223 and 10th in the continent of states/provinces reporting the most birds with 279,458
